Comprehensive District Health Management Field Practice is an integral part of field exposure to the District Health Management to get opportunity to develop skills and competency as Public Health Professionals and to develop aptitude to identify the health problems and health needs of the district. It provides opportunity to learn managerial as well as other technical skills to develop future health professionals. It is a herculean task for the health care providers in Nepal to reach the majority of the people who are mostly scattered in very difficult terrain. It requires to be managed by an individual with public health responsibilities in order to combine the elements and institutions in providing a fully comprehensive range of pro-motive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services.
As being public health students, it’s necessary to attend the comprehensive District Health Management Field Practice for partial fulfillment of our Bachelor degree of public health.
Students of Nobel College, Sinamangal, arrived Kaski District on 12th of Baisakh and Stayed for a month for Comprehensive Field Practice. During our stay we studied the managerial aspects of the Kaski District Public Health Office. As a part of university education, students also visited the peripheral health institutions of Government of Nepal; Western Regional Hospital, Sisuwa PHC, Hemja HP, Naudada HP. We visited some of the non-governmental organizations; Asha Health Clinic, Naulo Ghumti Pokhara, Nepal Red Cross Society.
Comprehensive Field Practice is a platform for students to gain the practical knowledge. During this study, we were supported and guided by the staffs of DPHO. we were able to find out the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of the Kaski District Public Health Office and also of other organizations. Our team gathered knowledge about the process of program formulation and program implementation and about the coordination. Team, with our combined effort, analyzed the health indicators of the Kaski District.
Micro Health Project:
We conducted the health program according to the prioritized need of the district health system. We found waste management at Health Institutions as a major issue to be addressed. Micro health project on waste management at Sishuwa PHC was conducted to fulfill this gap. After the completion of the project, participants are able to segregate the waste according to the government protocol and treat them appropriately.
Five Year Action Plan:
Five year action plan was prepared by this team of Nobel College on Contraceptive Prevalence Rate as Kaski District is lagging behind to achieve the target set by Government form SLTHP by 2017. Kaski District has the Contraceptive Prevalence Rate of 35% however government has target to reach 58.2% by 2017. Comprehensive five year action plan was prepared with the help of Mitra sir, family health division of Kaski DPHO and Sagun Paudel sir of USAID.
