Senior Laboratory Technician (Microbiology)

Vacancy Notice No: VN#NP/01/20 Open to Internal and External Candidates Position Title: Senior Laboratory Technician (Microbiology) Duty Station:  Kathmandu, Nepal Classification:  General Service Staff, Grade 6 Type of Appointment: One Year Fixed Term, with possibility of extension Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible Closing Date:  January 05, 2021 Under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer in Kathmandu Nepal for administrative matters, the direct supervision of Senior Laboratory Technician in Damak Nepal, the incumbent will be responsible for serving in IOM MHD laboratory Kathmandu. Core Functions / Responsibilities:  * Organize laboratory activities for efficient and optimal service delivery. * Participate in planning and designing of new or upgrading existing facilities. * Promote and monitor implementation of SOPs to comply with HAPs and other programmes’ standards. * Ensure that the equipment and consumables are sufficient for the anticipated work. Participate in planning of procurement, delivery, installation, servicing and operation of all laboratory equipment and optimal expenditure of consumables. * Organize record keeping and information management for timely delivery of results, data collection, analysis and reporting for laboratory monitoring and facilitation to operational research. * Participate in development of long-term work plan for improvement of facilities and safety, process control, information management, staff development and customer service. * Organise training for health care workers (HCW) in IOM for the updates of COVID-19 diagnostics and their merit/demerit and interpretation of results. * Fully engage in improvement of Laboratory process for COVID-19 diagnosis and support in IOM’s COVID-19 response in the country. * Strictly follow good microbiological practice in laboratory, train and implement the Infection, prevention and Control, IPC best practices. * Collect incident report in Laboratory and prepare report for future improvement. * Perform such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor. Required Qualifications and Experience Education * Masters’ degree in Science in Medical/Clinical Microbiology or M.Sc. in Medical Laboratory science from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of relevant laboratory experience in a busy institution, preferably in a mycobacteriology laboratory or molecular laboratory; * Should have valid professional license issued from Nepal Health Professional Council. Experience  * Experience in COVID-19 PCR Laboratory would be a distinct advantage; * Well experience in implementation of Laboratory quality management system in the molecular laboratory; * Experience in research and Laboratory staff training in COVID-19 diagnostics considered as an asset; * Experience in managing laboratory quality assurance programmes of COVID-19 Laboratory (Preferable); * Expertise and experience in developing SOP, guidelines for microbiology and molecular laboratory is a distinct advantage; * Effectively applies and transfers relevant technical knowledge and practices to personnel and laboratory operations; * Computer literate with good understanding of data collection and analysis for monitoring and continuous improvement of laboratory services and performance; * Good knowledge of bio risk analysis and risk assessment in the laboratory. Languages Fluency in English, Nepali is required.
